Our Services
Soil Testing
Before a septic system can be designed or installed, a thorough soil evaluation is essential. Our soil testing service determines the soil’s suitability for wastewater treatment and absorption, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations.
We perform detailed site investigations, including percolation testing and soil profiling, to assess factors like soil texture, structure, depth to restrictive layers, and drainage capability. This data helps us determine the best location and type of septic system for your property.
Whether you’re building a new home or upgrading an existing system, proper soil testing is the first step in protecting your investment and the environment.
Septic System Design
Once soil testing is complete, the next step is designing a septic system that works with your property’s conditions — not against them. At Saguaro Soils & Septic Design, we use your soil profile, percolation rates, topography, and space limitations to determine whether a conventional or alternative system is the right fit.
Conventional systems (like trench or bed systems) are a great option when the soil drains well and there’s adequate space. But when soils are restrictive, the slope is challenging, or setbacks limit your options, we design alternative systems.
Our designs are tailored for efficient performance and long-term reliability. We provide all necessary documentation for permit approval and are happy to coordinate directly with installers and county officials.
Whether you’re on a wide-open lot or a tight desert hillside, we’ll design a septic system that works — starting from the ground up.
About Us
We are Pauline and Alex Higginbotham, husband and wife duo from northern Minnesota. We moved to Arizona in 2021 and have created a life for ourselves here! We started Saguaro Soils & Septic Design LLC in 2024, we can't wait to continue serving our community and grow with it.
In our free time you'll find us trying out local restaurants, hiking, paddle boarding or hanging out in the garden with our dog Lulu.
Whether you’re just starting a new build or trying to figure out what kind of septic system you need, we're here to help guide the way!

Registered Sanitarian #1444I hold a degree in environmental studies with a focus on policy and planning, along with minors in economics, sustainability, and indigenous studies — all of which help me take a well-rounded approach to environmental work.
I’m a Registered Sanitarian/Registered Environmental Health Specialist (RS/REHS) and hold certifications in site & soil evaluation and onsite wastewater inspections. I also have experience working for both Maricopa and Pinal Counties, reviewing septic plans and inspecting systems across a wide range of properties and conditions.

I bring both technical knowledge and hands-on experience to every job, and I enjoy helping clients understand the process from start to finish. If nothing else, I am honest and happy to help!
